Thank you to all students and families who participated in our annual Scavenger Hunt for the Hungry. Over two hundred bags filled with food and toiletry items were delivered to Catholic Charities. Your generous donations will greatly benefit our brothers and sisters in need this holiday season. All middle school students are invited to continue their involvement with Catholic Charities by volunteering at their food pantry each Thursday evening. We would also like to thank the 7th grade class for their efforts in gathering, counting, and delivering the food to Catholic Charities.
Scavenger Hunt for the Hungry
The Scavenger Hunt for the Hungry ends this week. Each student is being asked to collect various goods through donations from family, friends, neighbors, and stores. The last day to turn in items is Friday, November 15th. All donations will be brought to Catholic Charities. Students who complete the scavenger hunt may come to school out of uniform on Tuesday, November 26th. As faithful followers of Christ, we are called to care for those in need.
Month of the Rosary
Each October, we celebrate the beauty of the rosary. At different points in the year, we speak to the students about how to pray the rosary, including the different mysteries and the prayers included. A great family activity during the month of October could be to pray the rosary together as a family.

Congratulations Class of 2013!
Our entire school community came together to honor Mary through a May Crowning ceremony. We showed our love and devotion to Mary on this special day. Representatives from each class processed into the church and presented Mary with flowers. Our May court was made up of our 8th grade leaders, two of whom, Pricilla M. and Rodolfo Z., gave Mary her crown. It is our prayer that our love for Mary bring us closer to our loving God. Mary, our mother, pray for us!
The SFR girls and boys basketball teams did very well this year. The girls team continues to grow and improve. They went from a team of 8 last year, to two teams totaling 20 girls this year! They also increased their wins, including some very good triumphs against St. Leonard's and OLC. We hope to see an even larger and more experienced team next year! The JV boys basketball team made us proud this year by winning the league championship. They went 12-2 in the regular season, and beat both teams they had lost to, when they got a rematch in the playoffs. The championship game was very exciting indeed. Although the opponents were much taller, the boys beat Lincoln 20-10, showing that the game is more about speed and finesse.
Congratulations to the JV boys basketball team: Alex A; Christian A; Isreal A; Steven D; Carlos G; Tony H; Enrique M; David O; Gavin P; John P
Coaches: Frankie Nuñez, Christian and Dorian Arceo
This season, both the girls and boys teams had a blast at practices and games, showing their school spirit, and getting some good exercise. The players were also lucky enough to benefit from the generosity of Mr. Zangrili. He not only donated several sets of Bulls tickets to the teams, but also arranged for them to play at the united center, on the very court that the Bulls play on.
Here's to a great season, SFR basketball players!

March for Life Update
On January 25th, four students and two teachers took the streets of Washington D.C. to defend life and promote justice. Over 700,000 pilgrims joined together to be a voice for the voiceless. Teachers and students alike were inspired and moved by the experience. No heart went untouched. We are deeply grateful for all those in the parish and school who so generously made it possible for us to attend the March for Life. It is our hope to continue to form pro life generations for years to come.
Beginning Wednesday, February 20, and continuing each Wednesday during Lent, students will participate in Eucharistic Adoration during the school day. Students will reflect, pray, and express love and reverence for the Blessed Sacrament. We invite parents to join us in Adoration any time from 9:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. as we draw closer to God.
2013 Mardi Gras Gala

This year, we had more than 300 people enjoy a great evening at our school. Special thanks to Cuerdas Clasicas who gave a wonderful performance to our guests. Finally, thank you again to Tony Ortiz, for his presence with us.

We hope everyone was able to enjoy a rest filled and relaxing vacation with family and friends. We pray that the year brings abundant blessings for you and your family. In Isaiah 43:18-19, God reminds us to “Remember not the events of the past, the things of long ago consider not; See, I am doing something new! Now it springs forth, do you not perceive it?” May your 2013 be filled with renewed opportunities to strengthen your faith and to love the Lord through prayer, service, and giving.
